Open Hat Tournament

Chain Lightning is excited to host its 2nd annual Open Hat Tournament to kick off the 2012 Club Season. This is a good opportunity for tryouts to show the team what they have and for local players to get in some competitive Ultimate. This event is open to the public, but we will cap it at 60 participants to ensure ample playing time.

Cost: $20 per player

Each player that registers beforehand will receive a Hat Tournament jersey (limited quantities and sizes). Jerseys will be available on the morning of the 12th upon payment.

EDGE Training Camp!

Chain Lightning and Edge ultimate are announcing the EDGE Ultimate + Chain Ultimate Performance Camp. The week of June 11-16, participating players and teams will get 5 days of intensive work with Certified Sports Performance Specialists and top caliber players from Chain Lightning.

All the details are at the Edge+Chain training camp home page, and the camp registration page is open.

As a team, Chain has already begun training with EDGE Ultimate (see shots below), and we’re excited about where this collaboration can take our athleticism and overall level of play.

As winter wraps up, we’re starting to plot out what 2012 will hold for Chain Lightning. The team will be working over the coming months to prepare for tryouts, practices, tournaments, and the club series. While no detailed schedule is set, here’s a glimpse at how we anticipate the calendar looking:

March-April: AFDC leagues, individual / small group training, and competitive pick-up
May – tryout and early season schedule announced
June – early season tournaments and practice start
July – Terminus and practices (tentative US Open)
August – travel tournaments (like ECC and Chesterpeake)
September – Sectionals and practices (tentative Labor Day)
October – Regionals and Nationals

Championships: Semis

Well, the ATL boys put together a good effort in still-rainy Sarasota this morning, pulling away from Ring of Fire in the quarters. The victory sets up a return to the semis, and a return to a semis match-up with Boston’s Ironside. The two squads squared off in ’08 and ’09, with Boston taking the first and Chain the sequel. The game marks the 4th semis appearance by Chain in the last 6 years (we had never made it before 2006).

1:15 Ironside (Boston) got the better of it yesterday, we’ll see if Chain can make adjustments

Chain plays the quarterfinals in Sarasota this morning, hoping to get things going after an up & down first 2 days of play. Hopefully the threat of being out if you lose gives the team an edge. Today will also be the first time this week that the whole team is present (added Sammy C-K yesterday, Robert Runner today).

Beginning with pool play this morning at 9:30 in Sarasota, Chain enter the final stage of the 2011 season — though it some ways it feels like a first step, as the intensity and focus required at nationals makes the rest of the year quickly seem long ago.

Chain Lightning enters as the top seed in Pool D, and plays Madison (12 seed overall), Oakland (13), and Doublewide (5) today. Updated results will be posted below.

9:30 Madison (WI) draws on the considerable talent developed by the area college teams; 1st game is often tough as teams deal with nerves and frisbees still wet from the morning dew
