The team will be working over the coming months to prepare for tryouts, practices, tournaments, and the club series. While no detailed schedule is set, here’s a glimpse at how we anticipate the calendar looking:

  • March-April: AFDC leagues, individual / small group training, and competitive pick-up
  • May – tryout and early season schedule announced
  • June – early season tournaments and practice start
  • July – Terminus and practices (tentative US Open)
  • August – travel tournaments (like ECC and Chesterpeake)
  • September – Sectionals and practices (tentative Labor Day)
  • October – Regionals and Nationals

The victory sets up a return to the semis, and a return to a semis match-up with Boston’s Ironside. The two squads squared off in ’08 and ’09, with Boston taking the first and Chain the sequel. The game marks the 4th semis appearance by Chain in the last 6 years (we had never made it before 2006).

Chain Lightning enters as the top seed in Pool D, and plays Madison (12 seed overall), Oakland (13), and Doublewide (5) today. Updated results will be posted below.

Chain Lightning comes in as the underdog, the 2 seed behind Doublewide, with the top three regional finishers advancing to the USAU Championship in Sarasota at the end of the month. The weekend marks a return to the fields in Little Rock where Chain won the Regionals in 2006, a performance that was precursor to the team’s first appearance in the national semi-finals.

-Saturday pool play: Space City Eclipse (9 a.m.), Freaks Uv Nature (11:30), Space City Ignite (2 p.m.), cross-over game for Sunday seeding (4:30)

A nearly-complete roster of players for Chain (all but Dempsey, Gainer, Hammond, and Joel Wooten) goes up against one of the strongest fields of the entire season, with an opening day of competition similar to (or tougher than) what teams face the 1st day of Nationals (though early September stakes aren’t nearly what’s on the table in late October).

Saturday’s play, in temps 15-20 degrees cooler than we’ve been having in Georgia, has matchups with Philly’s Southpaw at 9:45 (PST), the Bay Area’s defending USAU champions Revolver at 1:15(following a bye), and Vancouver’s Furious George at 3:00. On Sunday morning, ATL faces Great Britain and Voodoo before playoff brackets commence. The top 2 teams from each pool advance to semis.

The USAU Score Reporter for the tournament will have times and results as play progresses, and Chain and other teams will be on twitter with the hashtag #LDUC2011.

Here is the information on the event:

Date: Saturday, May 7th 2011
Time: Registration starts at 8:30am. Games start at 9am.
Location: Walker Park (directions to fields)
Cost: 10$ for pre-registered. 15$ the day of the event.

What to bring:
A light and dark jersey
Cleats
Plenty of Water
Sunscreen

The tournament fee will go to cover costs and include a player pack for participants. The first 50 people to reserve a spot will get a T-shirt in their player packs.
