Against a field including nearly all of last year’s Championship qualifiers (and arguably one of the strongest club fields ever assembled outside the UPA series), Chain Lightning represented itself well, losing only once in pool play and making it to the semifinals before bowing out to eventual winner Seattle Sockeye. That finish on the UC-Santa Cruz fields overlooking the Pacific stands as one of Chain’s strongest showings ever at a west coast tourney, the more impressive for having been accomplished despite the absence of nearly a third of the team.
