Nationals, 2 days in

So far, so good for Cinderella. Scrapping our way up from the (hereafter, lucky) 13 seed, we swept our pool with 3 consecutive upsets on Thursday, defeating Subzero (overall 5 seed), Furious George (overall 4 seed, last year’s runner-up), and Truck Stop (overall 12 seed). The win over Furious was Chain’s first ever over the perennial power. The closest of the games was 15-11, as the team started to hit its stride for perhaps the first time since the last time we were in Sarasota.

Friday’s games in the power pool were versus Boston and last year’s champion Sockeye from Seattle. A tight 14-13 win over Boston in the morning game clinched the 2nd spot in the pool and a top 4 seed going into the quarterfinals, so the drubbing we took in the second game didn’t sting nearly as much as your normal 3-15 loss.

Next up is elimination play, with a Chain vs. Goat (Toronto) matchup in the quarterfinals Saturday morning.
