Chesapeake: continuing the inconsistency
Finish: middling; 4-3 record, win over Boston

overdue recap from Aug 25-26
In brief, we were consistently erratic. All Saturday (until we were excited to play Boston in the last game) we were mired in games vs lower-seeded teams that were not doing us the courtesy of rolling over, and having to scrap for everything was not the path to feeling fresh (or even just “healthy”) in the 97 degree heat. Kudos to Truck Stop for closing us out (by 1) rather than allowing another barely-earned (considering our typical 1st half play) victory. The game against Boston Unnamed, with a storm rolling quickly in, saw everything going right for a change (6 D breaks in a row to start the game) and the team subsequently gaining confidence on the way to a 10-3 win before the game was called because of the lightning strikes (!) approaching.
Sunday broke a little cooler (only got up into the refreshing low 90s). In acknowledgement of the different conditions, we changed up our approach, forging a 2nd half lead vs. the UK’s Clapham, only to snatch defeat from victory’s jaws, after getting broken 3 times in a row late, then having the D get the disc twice on double game point before giving it back. The day ended with a respectably-played consolation win over Madcow (and Chain alum Jason Edelman) and a consolation loss in a half-hearted game to 7 vs. Boston.
While we were playing with several players absent (a circumstance we’ve grown only too used to) and a handful more hampered by injury, it was a disappointing weekend. There were certainly flashes of the level of play we hope to maintain, but a sense of urgency needs to develop in the next several weeks.
